Edgewater Glen

Elmdale (6000 N) to Granville (6200 N), Broadway (1200 W) to Clark (1600 W).  You’ll find wider streets and mature trees in this eclectic neighborhood near the lake. Farmers’ Markets in the summer and just steps to the lake make this a wonderful strolling neighborhood with lots of interesting shops and restaurants. Not to be missed is the Antiques Row on Broadway. This is a great culturally diverse neighborhood historically welcoming of all cultures and of the Gay and Lesbian communities.  Native Americans, former Yugoslavians, Africans of every part, young hipsters, new parents, first-time homeowners, students and many more make their home in Edgewater Glen. In the early 1900s, Edgewater was regarded as one of Chicago's most prestigious communities. A prominent symbol of Edgewater's affluence was the Edgewater Beach Hotel, which opened in 1916 at 5349 N. Sheridan. The famed pink hotel was demolished in 1968, though the remaining pink Edgewater Beach Apartments building is still a landmark at the north tip of Lake Shore Drive. Bike to work along the lake or take convenient public transportation. Edgewater Glen is serviced by the CTA’s Red Line and Metra trains
